QUIETLY ALONE

by Regina Ann

For the first time in my life, this lifetime, I have chosen to live quietly alone. So much of my life the thought of living alone or being alone terrified me. I recall one thought that, “if no one is here with me to witness my being, will I cease to be.” As I have become at peace with my being I have come to realize that those fears, needing validation from external sources, was the result of my not validating my being - not loving and accepting my being. For one to be truly at peace quietly alone, one must unconditionally love and accept their being in each moment.

With my new changes I have become more aware that a large number of people are very uncomfortable with being quiet and with being alone. For me, being quietly alone feels like a natural balance to being in the presence of others in the noise of life. For me, quietly alone is a respite from the noise and energy demands of life. It’s something I look forward to as much as I look forward to being in the presence of others and dancing the dance of sharing space time with them. For me, both are joyful.

Understandably, I am curious why so many are uncomfortable quietly alone. What fears are present that makes people avoid being quietly alone? Why do people feel they need others or noise to be comfortable? What is it people are avoiding by not being quietly alone?

In my years of experience with life coaching and helping others heal I have learned there are many reasons for avoiding being quietly alone yet there are common fears as well. The most common cause I have seen is a fear to be quietly alone with oneself because there is a lack of self-love and self-acceptance. Because they do not love themselves unconditionally and accept themselves as they are they avoid being quietly alone so that they don’t feel the sting of that truth.

Having done the work to come to a place of self-love and acceptance, and being in a space where being quietly alone is as joyful for me as being with others and sharing space, the freedom and peace are gifts I wish for every being to experience. For those of you who have been searching for peace, harmony, love, freedom I encourage you to do the inner work to create that space for yourself so that whether you are with a group of people, a significant other or quietly alone you can experience the bliss of Being Quietly Alone. ~ Namaste
